Hiking at Lake Garda has become very popular because there are numerous varied hiking trails all around the mountains surrounding the lake.
Tremosine is a valley in which 17 little villages are located 500 to 600 m above Lake Garda. Only Campione with its old harbour, also belonging to the region Tremosine, is located directly on the lake.
Vesio is surrounded by mountains, inviting the visitor to numerous beautiful walks and tours. Once a week we invite our guests to take part in a guided tour at no cost. You can also take part in tasting a large variety of typical local products.
The Residence La Berna is located at the entrance of the Bondo Valley, which is an advantageous starting point for walks and tours. Please put on your sportswear, take a bottle of water and a snack and start your tour! This way you will discover how grand and enjoyable nature can be. We are pleased to provide you with suggestions for day trips in our vicinity. You can start most of them right at our residence.
Here we would like to list a small selection of popular hikes:
Alpe di Garda – accessible in a one-hour walk. It is the home of the cheese dairy of Tremosine, known as “Formagella”, and famous for delicious alpine cheeses. There you might take a guided tour, have lunch at the local restaurant or buy a snack. You can go shopping, but primarily you should not miss the many local gastronomic specialities.
Dalvra Bassa and Dalvra Alta – short trip to the “Two Crosses”. The crosses can be seen right above the residence; to get to them you need to go up 350 m. The path is easy so that it is suitable for families with kids. At the crosses you have a breath-taking view over the highlands of Tremosine; in front to the east is Monte Baldo and at its bottom Lake Garda. Starting from the residence you walk along forest road No. 106 until you arrive at the junction indicating the forest track marked No. 216, which will lead you to Dalvra Bassa (the lower cross). From there you can continue on track No. 215, which is a bit steep and leads to the Dalvra Alta (upper cross). To return to Vesio you can take the same paths or else a signed shortcut, which leads directly through the forest.
Monte Bestone – 917 m, Very easy hike with an ascent of 270 m, recommended also for families with kids. From the residence you walk on an asphalt road in the direction of “Località Campi”. After 2 km you reach the hotel “La Balze”. Continue walking on the stony hiking trail marked with No. 211 in the direction of Monte Bestone. There you hike on a forest track along typically Mediterranean vegetation. The ascent continues on a path mostly along the mountain ridge, which allows also to take one or the other shortcuts. There you will enjoy a breath-taking view of Lago di Garda. On top of Monte Bestone there is a summit cross, an altar and a bell, all provided by the club “Prosac di Tremosine”. The way back to the hotel “La Balze” along the ascent route will take you about 45 minutes.
Monte Zenone – 1426 m, hike of medium difficulty and with about 800 m ascent using the hiking trails No. 218 and No. 218b. Time needed for ascent and descent is 5 to 6 hours. We recommend to use your mountain equipment for this tour. Do not forget your camera and be careful! Starting at the residence you walk 2 km along the asphalt road in the direction of “Polzone”, where you turn right into hiking path No. 218. After ascending about 300 m, which might take one hour, you will arrive at the little mountain saddle, the “Cocca”. From there you continue walking on dirt road No. 218b, which ends after 2 km but continues as path No. 218b. This is a smaller but still signed hiking trail. Continue on this path until you pass a short tunnel, built in World War I. About 100 m after the tunnel, you will arrive at a ridge. There you have the San Michele Valle on the left and the Bondo Valley on the right. A sign indicates the junction and the path to the nearby summit of Monte Zenone. Lots of flowers and individual standing beech trees. From the top of the mountain you can enjoy a stupendous panorama!
