Tremosine sul Garda is a high valley in Lombardy above Lake Garda which rose as a consequence of the last glacial era. It is located on the north-western side of the lake and is part of the nature park “Parco Alto Garda Bresciano”.
About 2000 people live in the 18 little villages that belong to Tremosine. 17 of them are distributed around the valley, 500 to 600 m above the lake: Arias, Bassanega, Cadignano, Castone, Mezzema, Musio, Pieve (center of administration), Pregasio, Priezzo, Secastello, Sermerio, Sompriezzo, Ustecchio, Vesio, Villa, Voiandes and Voltino. Only Campione is directly located on Lake Garda; it can be accessed by ship across the lake or by car though a series of tunnels. Tremosine is accessible from Limone by passing the district of Tamàs, or from Tignale along the “Tignalga”, or – very impressive – by a steep country road along the edge of the mountain and through a splendid gorge that finally leads to Pieve –Tremosine.
Particulary worthwhile to visit: the villages Musio and Vesio (where the Residence La Berna is located). In isolated Musio the interested tourist can visit a church dedicated to St. Francis of Paola, where impressive works of art can be seen. In Vesio the tourist can admire many old buildings and frescos as well as a splendid parish church with fascinating altarpieces and a wonderful organ. This church is one of the town landmarks. In modern Vesio you will find excellent restaurants and shops where you can also buy souvenirs.
Aquatic sport enthusiasts will certainly be attracted by easily reached beaches. From Vesio it takes by car 15 to 20 minutes to access one 600 m lower at the lake.
